January 2016Likely the same story as everyone else - a challenging winter to say the least. A lack of any substantial frosts until the end of January has meant slugs have maintained the upper hand. The mild weather means many crops have come far early than planned - some of our growers have already started on March cauliflower. Outside it is a quagmire and those lucky enough to have protected cropping are not doing much better. The looming hungry gap will be both long and difficult for most. On a more positive note, light levels are improving, we have had a frost. But more importantly there are premiums to be had for producing quality and there is plenty of demand from the public. 2016, at least from a demand perspective, has got off to a good start.

Hydref 2015After a wet and cold summer it was a disappointing start to the season for outdoor crops. Nice to get out and catch up with the field work although the cold nights will soon put pay to the leafy summer crops. The quantity of home grown produce appear to be good with quality holding up well, let's hope for a good season's end.
