Strengthening the links between local horticultural producers and the food service sector
An event aimed at strengthening the links between horticultural producers and the food service sector will take place at Maes y Neuadd Hotel, Talsarnau near Harlech on Wednesday 9 November 2011.
Organised by Organic Centre Wales on behalf of the Horticulture Wales supply chain efficiency project, the event runs from 11.00 to 15.00 and will be promoting the use of Welsh fresh horticultural produce to tourism and hospitality providers.
Chris Creed, a horticulture advisor from ADAS, will help solve the problems facing the gardeners in the two walled gardens at Maes y Neuadd, which over the years have supplied the hotel menu with significant quantities of vegetables.
"This is the second event which has brought suppliers of horticulture produce and those in the food sector together", says Carolyn Wacher of Organic Centre Wales. "The first very successful day was held at The Felin Fach Griffin outside Brecon".
There are clear benefits arising from chefs working closely with growers to source fresh, seasonal produce for their menus. "Even issues such as a glut of production can become an opportunity when relationships work well across the supply chain" says Jane Morgan from Horticulture Wales. ”We are sure that this will be a valuable and successful day for representatives of both sectors.”
